Why This Code Matters Support Dogs is committed to fundraising that is honest, respectful, open and legal. Every person representing us — whether staff, volunteer, or partner — plays a role in upholding the trust of our supporters and the wellbeing of those we serve. This Code sets out what is expected of everyone who fundraises in Support Dogs’ name, in line with the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice (2025). 1. Acting with Integrity Be truthful and transparent about Support Dogs’ work and how donations help people with disabilities and medical conditions. Never exaggerate or make misleading claims. If you don’t know an answer — say so and offer to find out. Always thank donors sincerely, regardless of the size of their gift. 2. Treating People Fairly and Respectfully Be polite, considerate and never pressure anyone to donate. Respect personal space and privacy, if someone says “no”, thank them and move on. Always represent Support Dogs with warmth and professionalism. Be mindful when speaking with children or anyone who may be vulnerable, ensure they understand and can make an informed choice. 3. Handling Donations Safely Follow our cash handling procedures – keep money secure and pass it to Support Dogs as soon as possible. Never take expenses or deductions from money collected. If online donations are made, ensure they go through official Support Dogs channels or approved fundraising platforms (e.g., JustGiving). Always issue or request receipts if needed, and record donations clearly. 4. Representing Support Dogs Wear your Support Dogs ID and branded clothing. Make sure all fundraising materials are approved by Support Dogs before use. Be positive ambassadors, your behaviour reflects the charity. Never criticise or compare other charities when fundraising. 5. Keeping Everyone Safe Follow all relevant health and safety, safeguarding, and data protection guidelines and ensure Risk Assessments are completed. Report any concerns, incidents or complaints immediately to the Support Dogs team. Make sure collection buckets or stands don’t cause trip hazards or block exits. If photographing events, always seek consent before sharing images publicly. 6. Our Commitment to You Support Dogs promises to: Treat all fundraisers with respect and appreciation. Provide clear guidance, materials and support. Use every donation carefully and responsibly. Be transparent about how funds make a difference. 7. Working Together We are one team — staff, volunteers, and partners — united by compassion and commitment.
